it slides down the mortar tube until the primer in the ignition cartridge strikes the firing pin in the base cap of the mortar

but it is noticeably smaller and has some construction differences

so this rifle did see a good amount of use

This piece, like several others, was designed by Professor Theodor Krner, and is known as the Munich Maid to collectors. The sculpture shows the maid in a flowing robe with a hood, and looks to be holding a book in their hand.
