A large oval medal constructed of silvered bronze, the obverse centre presenting the Baden griffin with the coat of arms, circumscribed by the inscription GROSSHERZOGTHUM BADEN 1870 (GRAND DUCHY BADEN 1870), the reverse centre presents the imperial eagle, circumscribed by the inscription DEUTSCHES KAISERREICH 1871 (GERMAN EMPIRE 1871), measuring 68. 14 mm
