Constructed of a light grey cotton blended base, the obverse bearing a black embroidered inscription of KURLAND, flanked on the left by by a black embroidered shield bearing the coat of arms of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, and on the right flanked on the right by a shield bearing the coat of arms of the former Courland capital city of Mitau (now Jelgava), trimmed along both the top and bottom with black borders,
