This helmet is heat lot stamped 67B which indicates the approximate manufacture date of February 1942

There is however a stamped mark 684 where the flash pan used to be

which looks to be Australian issue

with a 9 inch barrel

As with Naval Dirks in Europe, they were given to officers when they were first commissioned, and were not intended to be any type of functional weapon. They began to be issued starting in the 1880s, and their use continued until the end of WWII. In
