This is a really stellar piece from the Boer War, a trench lantern case by Bulpitt & Sons of Birmingham dated 1896, which has been painted in a deep shade of brown commonly seen on items used in the Boer War. The front of the case is painted with E 2, likely Company E of the 2nd Regiment. The case measures 12 x 6 x 1. The carrying strap is still present but it is broken as shown.
