Constructed of glazed off white earthenware, the exterior bearing a hand painted depiction of a transitional Stahlhelm, situated against a backdrop of oak leaves trimmed with a classic Wehrmacht red, white, and black tri colour border, topped by a unit dedication of UNDERSTAB III. ARTL. REGT. 17 for the staff of Artillerie Regiment 17, situated above mounted machine guns and an inscription of WEIHNACHTEN 1935
