These sort of weapons were the staple all over the United States in pre Civil War days
which was delivered between March 1945 and May 1945
The artifacts were given to the Smithsonian Institution in 1918
Round-Turners father was vice admiral Charles Wolfran Round-Turner who entered the Royal Navy in 1893 and achieved the rank of vice admiral in 1935
carrying out their mission and protecting the lives of the men entrusted to them in a wartime situation

This is a very good example with an excellent metal shield attached to field gray wool Heer (Army) cloth backing. The wool is in great shape, with just a bit of fading, and no mothing. The rear paper backing is about 90% complete, and has a great aged look. The front has a great aged brass patina. This example was definitely never mounted to a uniform before being put into storage.
