We've shied away from most cultivars of the North American (Canada south to Texas) native Coreopsis tripteris because of their terrible flopping garden habits when in flower, but that's been eliminated with Coreopsis 'Gold Standard' because it turned out to be a hybrid with Coreopsis verticillata. This selection forms a large clump of 6' tall
