Two piece construction, red cross insignia in silver with red and white enamels, mounted to a silver cross base, obverse bearing the initials "DDRK" on the four arms, the reverse inscribed in Latin "INTER ARMA CARITAS" (Between the Arms of Charity) in the centre, flanked by floral rosettes on the arms at 6 and 12 o'clock, unmarked, measuring 38. 2 mm (w) x 43. 2 mm (h) inclusive of its laterally pierced
